#INSPIREDPINGS - November 2017 Issue

Each month we bring together the best stories from the worlds of live events, experiential and advertising communications in our blog #INSPIREDPINGS - celebrating the best "lightbulb" moments and ideas from across the Web. This month we take a look at Audi's tech laden escape room, Hunter's multi-sensory greenhouse, a tiny projection-mapped chef and much more.

CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE THINKING

Escaping with Audi

If you are a lover of both cars and puzzles then Audi has come up with the perfect combination, the Audi e-tron escape room. Dubbed as the “most technological escape room in history”, the one hour experience gives consumers the chance to work with robotic arms, holograms, interactive projection mapping and mechanical installations in order to solve the clues and escape. Cleverly, the experience also teaches participants about electric cars. If you want to try it out you must hurry, the escape room is only open in Madrid until 30th November. Will you escape?

Bringing Scotland to New York

If you were asked you to think of three words to describe Scotland, and three words to describe New York, we’re pretty confident that those words wouldn’t be the same. That’s why Hunter’s Multisensory Experience worked so fantastically to transport New Yorkers to the Scottish Highlands. Last month’s pop-up experience took place in NYC’s busy Grand Central Terminal and featured a greenhouse complete with the sound of wind and rain, the scent of moss and a light mist to give commuters the full Scottish experience. Visitors were asked to put on a poncho to protect themselves from the ‘elements’ whilst exploring the greenhouse and finding out all about Hunter’s key new items before returning to their normal day. If only escaping the rain was always that easy!

IDEAS THAT CONNECT AND ENGAGE AUDIENCES

The Art of Feeling

They say a picture paints a thousand words and now, thanks to The Art of Feeling, this proverb has never been truer. Random Quark, a creative technology studio, and Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness have developed a system to turn brainwaves into paintings. Inviting participants to put on an EEG headset, they were asked to think of an emotional memory. The brainwaves recorded from these sessions were fed into an algorithm which resulted in the creation of swarm paintings that embodied participants state of mind during recording. The beautiful results of this experiment can be seen here.

INSPIRATION FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD

Denmark Stuns with Sustainable School

We’re all aware of the many benefits of using solar energy, and because of these benefits solar panels are becoming much more commonplace. More often than not though, these panels tend to be disguised as roofs, roads or even blinds. However, a school in Denmark has stepped out of the norm, instead of disguising solar panels the Copenhagen International School uses the panels as a featured architectural element. 12,000 blue-toned panels cover 65,000 square feet and the angle of the tiles creates a stunning, sequin like effect. Even more impressive than the look of the school is the fact that the panels generate more than half of the school’s electricity. We think this beats concrete in the looks department any day!

Dinner Time Story

Just when you thought immersive storytelling couldn’t get any better, food is added to the mix! Back in 2015, Skullmapping (a duo of Belgian Artists) downsized their building-scale projections to be dinner table sized, creating a thumb-sized chef who serves virtual food. Restaurateur Nadine Beshir saw Skullmapping’s work and decided to take this concept one step further, combining food, technology and storytelling to create a pop-up restaurant named Dinner Time Story. Using HD projectors concealed in lampshades above, the story of Le Petit Chef and his Silk Road inspired journey is beamed onto the tables below, whereby visitors are sitting with blank books. Waiters carefully place dishes around the animation, truly making the experience a multi-sensory one. We absolutely love this idea, first seen in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and now open in London, Brussels and Berlin. Watch a video to see more.
