My Inspiration for this week’s blog is from digital startup Freeformers, who are making huge waves in the digital transformation arena and have recently published a very insightful Future of Work Report.

Future of Work is a ‘hot’ phrase at the moment, and for many I imagine it brings to mind the sort of future vision where Robots and Technology will replace the human in the workplace. But Freeformers have recognised that as certain tasks become automated, the human element actually becomes even more important, not less. To quote from their report, ‘Employees will have more time to do things that serve the creativity and essence of the company. This in turn will result in happier people, greater productivity, more purpose and boosted profits’.

Others have also identified this. In her blog Stephanie Vozza identifies, ‘The Job Skills of the Future that Robots can’t master’ - ‘soft skills like communication, problem solving, collaboration and empathy are becoming more valued than technology’.

The Future of Work is also about how we work. Technology now allows your workforce to work anytime, anywhere, with the emphasis on making the most of your individual skills. Gi Fernando, founder of Freeformers, says in the report, ‘Lifelong learning has trumped the ‘career for life’ and goes on to say ‘…there is now a great opportunity to create a new standard, taking into account other human characteristics and fitting them to values and purpose’.

This is in alliance with how we work here at Inspired - we have a small core team alongside a large pool of talented individuals and suppliers, whose skills we draw upon to work on the projects where their skills are best suited to deliver true excellence.

I also take inspiration from the way the future of work values the human, as we do here in the experiences we organise. And whilst I am an advocate for technology, and agree with Freeformers that, ‘Rather than fear challenges on the horizon such as artificial intelligence and automation, we must understand them and capitalise on them’, I also agree with Belgian event creator Luc Petit when he says in an insightful interview, ‘Human beings will always be stronger than technology’. But it is when humans and technology work side by side, in both live experiences and in the workplace, each maximising their unique skills and benefits, that something really powerful is created.
